For about a week now the weather has been gloomy and rainy. There was no real transition from the summer sun to this winter gloom, so I feel like I'm still trying to catch up and adjust. As I am from California, it's become apparent that I have been very spoiled weather wise. This whole suiting up in scarves and coats just to go to the grocery store is going to take some getting used to. So, instead of doing the whole getting used to it thing, this weekend I did the whole avoiding it thing. It was nice to be a total bum and lay around for a change, but next weekend I'll definitely be making the most of my time. I'm prepared to compensate for this weekends lethargy!
Last night I went out with two of my roommates for a bit. We went to an Irish bar where someone had organized a meet up for the language assistants working in Madrid. We had fun socializing and dancing, but over all the evening was pretty low key.
Thursday, after my classes I did a little shopping. One benefit of it being so cold? An excuse to shop for warmer clothes! Other than shopping, my second biggest accomplishment of the weekend was making twice baked potatoes. I love that being away from home has inspired me to start cooking more. Spanish grocery stores do not offer the ready made meal options I am so used to, I miss you Trader Joe's! But, it's really a beneficial thing because it is forcing me to explore the realm of cooking. I've been doing a lot with vegetables, roasting and such, but my proudest dish yet were the twice baked potatoes I made on Saturday...oh yes. It'll be nice to return home with some cooking skills up my sleeve, and I'm sure Donny won't complain.

Back to school tomorrow and I am ready for the week. More to come soon!
